Red Sox slumping?

Recommended Posts

The Boston Red Sox are finally back home for their opener today, facing the New Yankees after a 6 game losing streak has left them without a victory so far during the 2011 season. The Sox’ will throw right-handed pitcher John Lackey who had horrific start to his season allowing 9 runs and 10 hits in less than 4 total innings in his debut against the Texas Rangers. The Yanks will bring Phil Hughes to the mound, after he as well, had a rough start in his season debut against the Tigers on Sunday.

Who To Blame?

So who is to blame for the 0-6 streak that has been set upon this club? Everything? Pitching, Defense, and especially Offense have buried the Red Sox so far this season. The pitching and defense has surrendered a total of 38 runs in only 6 games. John Lackey’s 22.09 ERA also did not help when he had troubles against the Rangers last Saturday.

The team has hit the ball well, tallying 35 total hits, but only having 16 RBIs is another issue. Hitting the ball with RISP seems to be already a huge problem for the club. A few miscues on the field have also cost the Red Sox multiple runs and increased levels of frustration for the fans.

Too Early!

The worst start in baseball history was performed by the 1988 Baltimore Orioles going 0-22 before notching their first win that season. It is way too early to say that the Red Sox will follow the path of the 1988 Orioles or anything even close to being that dramatic.

Look for the Red Sox to pick up their first win against the Yankees this weekend. All teams slump, and maybe the Red Sox are just biting the bullet and getting it out of the way early. Red Sox fans should not give up yet.

They're just getting off to a bad start, they should pick it back up soon.

And they actually won today, so that's good.
