Matt^ Report post Posted July 19, 2011 Current Specs: AMD Athlonâ?¢ 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+ (1024KB L2 Cache, SOCKET AM2) @ 2299MHz (200MHz FSB) 6GB DDR2 Ram ASUS M2V Motherboard 512 MB Radeon X1600 Series VGA Windows 7 250 GB Hitachi HD Well yeah, it's not really an ideal computer anymore and I'm looking for better performance. The CPU can't really handle as much as I want it to. Part of the real reason why I haven't joined any clans or involved myself in any wars is because of the lag. It's simply horrendous and it's not because of my connection speeds. So yeah, I was wondering if anyone could point me or help out with building a new one. I just recently bought a brand new Ultra Case and Heat sink, so yea (that won't be included in the price tag). I'd like to keep the price of the computer around 700-750 USD, and preferably based on Intel's i5 2500k or 2600k CPU. I've seen some lists that people configure on those online merchant sites with all the hardware and whatnot, if anyone could point me in the right direction that'd be awesome. Thanks. Corey Report post Posted July 19, 2011 Well, your running on an AM2 mobo so it would be a bad idea to upgrade it, because you wouldn't be able to get a good processor without getting a new mobo which would need more memory and then a new CPU. So your better off practically building a new pc. PM me if you need help.
 0

≈Nine Report post Posted July 19, 2011 Do you already have a copy of Windows? What other than playing RS do you plan on doing with it? I could probably help you picking parts along with a core i5 2500k (no need for an i7 2600k, it's only .1 GHz faster and hyper threading probably won't benefit you that much), but I need to know the answers first. Also, can you link me to your case and heatsink?
 0

Also, can you link me to your case and heatsink? Yeah I already have a copy of Windows 7. Apart from RS I plan on doing video editing, lots of Photoshop and Dreamweaver, having a bunch of stuff open at once, etc. Along with gaming. I want it to be able to handle anything. Gwas Report post Posted July 19, 2011 Gl, personally I prefer to just buy pre-made gaming computers off e-bay. Saving a bit of $ to build it yourself is just a hassle to me.
 0

Splodge Report post Posted July 19, 2011 (edited) Buy : I5 2500K Any Sandybridge Motherboard (socket 1155), you're not an enthusiast, it doesn't matter. 4-6GB of XMS3/Dominator/Ripjaw/Vengeance RAM. ATI HD 5770 or one of the 69XX range if you have the extra cash. If you still have cash left over go for the i7 2600k. As for a cooler, go with the stock one (but I think you said you had an aftermarket one, if so go with that). Get a ~600W PSU. Hard drive speeds aren't going to be an issue or cause a bottle neck for you, go with any 1TB one. Use the DVD drive you currently have (if it's sata, otherwise buy a new one. They're cheap anyway). Going for the i5 and the 5770, I think it'll be comfortably within your price range. Although I really would recommend going for the i7 and the ATI 6950 if you can afford to spend the extra cash, It's really worth it for the extra that it will cost. That will suit your needs perfectly, while being able to play any game easily at medium settings, probably comfortably near max in your monitors native resolution. Naturally with high end hardware, you'll be able to do a lot, video editing/photoshop won't be an issue for you at all. Enjoy. conordakilla Report post Posted July 22, 2011 Id go with the 2600k if you have the extra 100$ to spend. If not buy the 2500k (basically the same thing) and put the extra 100$ towards your video card(s). The bump in performance buy buying the slightly better processor will be dwarfed by putting an extra 100 bucks into a nice ass video card.
 0
