The Deathly Hallows Places Third

Recommended Posts

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 is now the biggest worldwide box office hit ever! Well… the biggest hit not directed by James Cameron. Which is still saying something, as it's nearly impossible to match "King of the World" Cameron at the box office.

Over the weekend, as it opened to great numbers in China, the final Potter film rose to a staggering $1,333.9 (as in billion) total, in the process passing The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King to become the third highest grossing worldwide hit of all time. The only two films that have made more money? Titanic and Avatar. While Deathly Hallows Part 2 probably has plenty more left in the tank to get at least another hundred million or so, if not more, it's very unlikely to reach Titanic's $1,843.2 and certainly not going to match Avatar's "Holy Crap!" worthy $2,782.3. Yes, inflation and the addition of 3D prices were notable factors, but still, this is quite an achievement for Harry Potter, which certainly is closing the series on a high note.
