Valve Software announced Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, which launches in early 2012 for PCs, Macs, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Players can expect fresh maps, characters, weapons and game modes, as well as updated content from earlier versions of the tactical-based game. The original Counter-Strike boasts an interesting history, starting out in 1999 as a mod from Valve title Half-Life that became so popular the developer turned it into a retail game. Valve will develop the game along with Hidden Path Entertainment, best known for Counter-Strike Source and Defense Grid: Awakening. Valve did not offer details on how much the game will cost.
