Thoughts on MMK/OSRS?

Okay, let's delve down a bit deeper into F2P. Firstly, we all have to accept the fact that if Old School doesn't make any money there won't be any Old School - that is the fact of the matter. So, we are all after the same thing, we need to keep Old School profitable because we like profit and you like playing. Three big reason why people leave the game is if they get hijacked, scammed or banned. If free to play comes along hijacking and scamming will increase as will botting (the chief reason for banning). Those will cause members to leave which is something that is bad for all of us. We need to have systems in place to stop people being hijacked and scammed and be in a position to be able to discourage anyone from botting because people know they will get caught. We all know we are no where near that now.

We also have to be very careful about internet safety, although it may not be important to many individuals, as a company we have a duty to do everything we can to protect our younger and more vulnerable players against these risks. This means a whole raft of monitoring and escalation software as well as people to manage that information. Sadly, it is not a case of just plugging it into what we already have.

The flip side of the argument is that there will be a large increase in players that will play Old School, that may be true, but will they transfer to be members? We have to be realistic here, Old School is not going to attract any new-to-Runescape players, with the competition out there (Lotro, SWTOR, etc) you already need an emotional bond with Runescape to want to play it above those. So, free to play being the saviour of Old School is not necessarily the case. Of course, that is to assume Old School needs a saviour.

Right now, we have several thousand new accounts joining the game every day. The membership numbers have been very solid for the last few months and we are not seeing a decrease in players. Old School is in a good place.

So, on one hand we have a whole host of risks to the game and on the other hand there are no guarantees for success, fortunately we are in the position to be able to take the time to make the right decision and give F2P the best possible chance of success if it does become an option.

Pretty sure were all responsible enough at this stage in our lives to afford a $8~/membership, if not then you prbly shouldn't be playing lul. Especially with the bonds update..

And for those that think f2P will attract people BRAND NEW to rs, won't change anything cus will take 2 years IF they even stick with it ( low chance) to even effect main pking lol

And why put an emphasis on the word "prophit", their not a charity, they have employees, bills to pay just like any other company does lol

You're suprised isn't willing to fund the servers if they're not economically viable? What do you expect. They're not really doing much to keep them viable mind.

Well, obviously, a business has to make money.

They were pretty stupid tho, adding eoc. They are still making money, but not as much because of this update.

I'm done with them, literally nothing will change their stubborn attitude. How much money do they want to make, a little bit or a lot? Because if they wanted to make a lot, they would do things differently.

Don't have much faith of them doing something good
