Chat with Mod Reach

Important things highlighted/underlined

So a couple clan leaders and ranks got together and had a talk with Mod Reach/Alfred yesterday (Thursday). This was planned weeks in advance thanks to Saber Six (Erin) being able to get us in contact with them. If your rank didn't tell you this was going to happen then I'll fill you in.

Basically they wanted to know what could be done to help out the clan world and they wanted ideas on how to fix what we saw as current problems. We presented a couple of problems/ideas but of course didn't get to talk about everything seeing as Reach's time was cut short and Alfred is limited to artwork. Since I decided against recording (I'd rather people speak freely with no fear of what others think about their opinions, and that's done best by not holding every word they say against them) I'll write up what was discussed.

----------------------------------------------------------------

People who spoke (if you were at the talk but didn't speak then remind me)

Mods:

Mod Reach (Makes content, works on server based things,

Mod Alfred (Graphics dude, is in a pure clan as well)

From the main clan world:

Myself (Sfa05)

Oergg

Murray 1991

Erik

Pond

Mike (Cera)

Kaochinx

From the pure clan world:

Cody (from Fatality)

"Fatality Mod". (I'm assuming he's a mod in Fatality as well)

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Topic: Clan wars -

We asked if clan wars could be shut down on weekends in order to force clans to PK or fight in the wilderness. Mod Reach said that this would be a very jumbled up if statement (meaning when coding the times that they'd have to say something along the lines of if it's Sunday/Monday CWA gets closed but in nerd-speak of course). We reviewed the thought a little more and Reach confirmed that even if it was easy to code he'd rather not, and Mod Ash would rather not as well. It seems like CWA will come out in full force.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Topic: Ragging/Welfaring

We wanted a way to reduce the impact of 1 iteming / ragging in the wild. We didn't want to completely abolish it, but we came to the understanding that right now it's anti-fun for us and newer clans to deal with this issue. Mod Reach thought that the solution was to make it so your target shows up on top of piles, but I don't think he fully understood what this meant. We cleared up the confusion and brought up the idea that PKers who wanted to attack someone could put in 20k at Edgeville (minimum) and everytime they died their opponent would receive that 20k and it would get put into their deposit. Somewhat like everybody gets a bounty that increases in value, but you'd only lose a maximum of 20k everytime and could withdraw whatever it is you deposited at the NPC. Obviously this idea could be made simpler and more understandable. Mod Reach seems interested in helping make every kill worth something.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Topic: Wilderness Rejuvenation

We spoke in depth of Callisto and purple skeleton dude specifically. It's obvious these monsters are too strong for what they drop. A couple solutions were discussed and these seemed to be the most prominent:

Reach agreed that the monsters are in need of a drop buff.

Reach suggested he does something every week to change the way the wilderness monsters work mechanically or switch up their rewards. This'll keep it somewhat fresh.

Reach said he was the one that designed these champions himself which is why they're so difficult. He likes them this way, but the drops do need to match the difficulty.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Topic: Too many worlds

This one is pretty simple. People are capable of entering the wilderness on far too many worlds right now compared to the available players. I personally thought he'd just instantly 'no' this, but he actually seemed interested. Reach said it's possible and actually really simple to implement a mechanic that would disable entering the wilderness on worlds. The problem is it has to pass a poll and the community no'd the last world related poll.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Topic: Clan exposure

We need to advertise the clan world. Mod Reach said he's willing to help advertise more clan world streams and better than when Saber Six streamed. We explained that we curse a lot but he says that it's fine.

Unfinished idea on this is also more promotion in log ins/a Runescape ladder/tournament involving clan wars. We might get more log in messages / forum involvement / streams of our clan wars fights. Mod Reach mentioned wanting to make clanning seem more MLGish (like League).

------------------------------------------------------------------------

More was spoken about but I don't remember very well. None of this was promised, but he came up with a lot of it on his own so it's obvious the idea is floating around.

edit: Forgot to mention, they're making some sort of streaming website for RS. From my understanding it'd still involve Twitch but the interaction would be RS-integrated. Don't really know how that's important to us, but thought I'd mention it anyways. (H) bk2study

Also implementing a way to have us pay for P2P via old school so we don't need to x-fer to RS3.

Clan wars coming out is retarded and in itself will damage the clan world a ton. I do like the idea of the clan fight streams seeming more "MLGish" like League of Legends though. Maybe it'll make shit clans try and actually step it up so they don't look like such pussies.

We'll see how things play out. Bottom line is, if these updates are going to benefit anything, they need to happen before the Summer comes out. Once the Summer is over, the clan world will be dying pretty quickly by the looks of it.

First thought: If 1 itemers can't 1 item they'll either rag as rag as they can, or just not pk. Don't see them suddenly bringing mystic/rune/neit helms/etc.

What it COULD do is stop them from 1 iteming, but yeah, not much more. No 1 itemers is a bonus all to itself so I won't complain.

Monsters need really, really good drops, or need to be easy to kill. Callisto/bear was really active for a while because it could be safespotted, even if after a few days people were 1 iteming it.

I like the idea of cutting the worlds and 20k risk every death.

It's not going to stop 1 iteming but if they drop 20-50k every time we kill them it at least makes us something in return. Assuming we kill 3 1 itemers we can make anything between 60-150k.

I sincerely doubt anybody would try to get into the clan world and actually stay long-term at this point.

Don't really think anything in this post is relevant in all honesty. Clans will just hide in clan wars and as for the bosses and buffing drop tables there is nothing worth that would make killing those bosses profitable. When they had pvp armour it was a decent middle ground because after you used it for a certain amount of time the armour would degrade therefore not making it as common and more desirable. I don't think anyone really wants those new shields/dragon pickaxes and if they do there is only so many people that need/want them.

What I'm thinking is even if they lose 20k per 1 item death, it just isn't worth it for them. They may as well bring rag and try to be slightly more effective if they're going to be losing at least 20k. Might be wrong, but I can't imagine people would return to 1 item for a dedicated amount of time losing 20k/death. At the least they'll be really discouraged from doing it.

Oh right. Yeah that's actually the point. They either bring decent gear or just don't pk. Both of which would be beneficial.

Don't know if I made it clear enough in the post but they're going to buff the drop tables overall. We made it clear to him that right now they're not profitable at all. Stab rings was in the talks, and that could probably be added in. If they're mad e abit weaker and their drops are increased we'd be good for a bit more action.

It's not like we're all going to quit as soon as CWA comes out. May as well try to find a way to enjoy the game while we play it.

Not gonna lie I'm a bit annoyed that they don't want to shut down CWA on weekends. It's pretty fucking lame.

That's another issue we talked about. Hopefully if they do a good job at advertising and we get a decent stream we might be able to bring new people in. No harm in talking about it :)
