What do you use to protect your computer?

Recommended Posts

Any reccomendations/critics are welcome! --- Post what you use for antivirus/std protection/ Matinence

Currently I use Antimalwarebytes and Avast! - I also use CCleaner to get rid of registry errors-

Best answer so far:

I myself use:

AV:

Eset NOD32 Paid (You can easily get a crack).

Protection:

Malwarebytes.

SUPERantispyware.

Comodo Firewall.

Maintenance:

Ccleaner.

Things I don't recommend using, with reason.

Registry cleaners (However Ccleaners is decent) - because they find many false positives and can seriously fuck your computer up. Never install a registry cleaner, never run one, and never use them. They are horrible for your PC.

AVG - Just a horrible anti-virus in my opinion. Has a low rate in finding threats and doesn't find rootkits.

Kaspersky - Resource hog.

Any "tune up" or "cleaner" that isn't Ccleaner - Most of the time when you use these, they will find and remove files that you actually use, but they think are dangerous. Bad idea to use them, and 99% of the time they end up fucking your computer up.

Avira Antivirus - Yes, a lot of people love this, but in my opinion it has a lot of problems and it's too much maintenance to take care of for an anti-virus.

Spybot Search % Destroy - Isn't compatible with most anti-viruses to run at the same time, as well as it's a resource hog.

Extra comments: I personally would recommend downloading Eset NOD32 and pm me on IRC (Villiska) for a key. It's by far my favorite Anti-virus because of it's efficient finding of threats, and it's lightweight ram usage. Another great tool is Malwarebytes Anti Malware. It's very good for finding Malware, and I've yet to find anything better. For spyware and ad-aware, I use SuperAntiSpyware for it's sheer in-depth scanning and how great it is. For maintenance, the only thing you need is Ccleaner and Defraggler (for defragging). Both made by Piriform.

Tl;Dr

Get Eset NOD32/Malwarebytes/Superantispyware/Ccleaner.

It's all you'll ever need.

If you're really wanting security, you can also download Comodo Firewall (NOT the anti-virus). It's a great firewall that goes barely noticed and keeps you safe.

McAfee AntiVirus Plus isn't free, but my college has a contract with McAfee and all students can use it for free on their own systems for 2 years now, untill their contract is finished/needs to be renewed.
